Why Most Founders Never Find a Co-Founder

There's no shortage of people who'd consider becoming someone's co-founder. Most searches stall for reasons that have nothing to do with how many potential partners exist.

The most common one is vagueness. 'Looking for a co-founder' with no specifics about what's being built or what's actually missing gives a potential partner nothing to respond to — and nothing to say yes to.

The second is looking in the wrong place for the wrong stage. Searching a hiring platform for someone willing to work unpaid on an unproven idea, or searching a casual community for someone ready to commit long-term, mismatches the ask to the audience before anyone even replies.

The third is never actually posting anything public. A private list of people to cold-message caps the search at however many names you can think of. A public card or post gets found by people you'd never have thought to reach out to.

The fix for all three is the same: be specific about what you're building and who you need, put it somewhere it can be discovered, and give it time to work passively instead of treating the search like a single conversation that either works or doesn't.
